Day 170 – Week 25 – 25 mins (10)

Now today was one of those days when I really should have stuck to my rules and done exercise FIRST THING in the morning. Instead, I decided to enjoy lounging about in bed, doing some interneting, catching up with a few people on facebook – always with the intention of doing it later.

But then – I suddenly had a conference call that went on longer than it should of, I had a writing job that had to be done immediately, so it was lunch time before I finally got into my exercise gear.

Then ten minutes into it, I got a phone call I had to take. And then I had to make another phone call, and then I had to race out and meet some friends from Australia I hadn’t seen for years.

So – all in all – I was actually lucky to get that ten minutes in at all. But you see, how easy it is to lose the plot if you don’t do it first thing in the morning, even when you think you have all day to do it? You’d think I’d have figured that out by now…but sometimes, the lure of that nice warm bed is just impossible to resist. Fight it girl, fight it!

Day 169 – Week 25 – 25 mins

My back is much better today, and I felt fine to go for a run at lunch time. Added my one extra minute for the week, and really felt it – in a good way though. It wasn’t exhausting, but I felt I was really doing some work.

I was talking to a colleague at work who is training for a half marathon with her boyfriend- she has gone from not really being a runner, to managing to run for an hour at a time in a very short time. And it does make me wonder if I’m doing it TOO slowly, boring myself into not getting fit. But somehow, I still think it is the way I need to do it. I’m just not the kind of person who can push my body that far, that fast….

Maybe in about a year’s time I’ll be ready for that half marathon…

Day 166 – Week 24 – 24 mins

I seem to be making improvements in the touching the toes department.

That’s not to say I can actually touch my toes yet, but I am inching closer – or should that be millimetring closer. Do other people find this really hard? Do other people feel as if the back of their calf muscles are screaming in pain when they do this? Or is that just me? Personally – I think it’s just that my legs are too long for the rest of my body, that’s what the problem must be. It’s got to be a whole lot easier if you have shorter legs, right?

Anyway – did my 24 minutes without having to talk myself into it too much. It really is so much better when you stop thinking about it, and just get on and do it. I think we might be getting the last of the good weather here in London – better get myself outside for a run tomorrow…

Day 154 – Week 23 – 23 mins

Up and strengthening and stretching this morning while listening to the BBC World Service – something that makes you feel at home no matter what country you are in.

While I did all the minutes today, I have to say I found it a bit harder than usual. As is often the case on work trips I am living on a diet of restaurant food, quick to grab snacks and wine, and I am wondering if that is beginning to have an effect on me. I certainly didn’t feel as strong as usual this morning.

I have about another five days to go here, and then it will be back home to some proper fruit and vegetables.

Day 127 – Week 19 – 19 mins

This morning, I thought I could see a trace of some abs in the mirror. Only a trace – but there was something there, I am convinced. This is progress. I have never had abs of any description.

Early start at work today, so went for the jog at work option. It was a lovely day, and a delight to go for a bit of a run about down by the river (along with a whole load of other Londonites, I have to say).

The thing is, I had taken a bag to work with all the bits and pieces I needed – exercise clothes, socks, a towel and some shower gel etc. Unfortunately, the lid came off the shower gel, and it spilled all over my socks. But what’s a girl to do? She can’t be using that ‘I can’t go for a run, I’ve got shower gel on my socks’ excuse – so despite the socks being a little soggy, I put them on, and went anyway.

So – while I was enjoying getting out in the fresh air, I was slightly distracted as I felt the need to keep an eye on my shoes. I couldn’t help thinking that if I started to sweat, the moisture might mix with the shower gel, and I’d start seeing bubbles coming out of my shoes! Of course that didn’t happen – but I swear I DO now have the sweetest smelling running shoes in the area!
