Day 63 – Week 9 – 9 mins
I decided to push the boat out and really add some excitement to my bosu workout this morning – by wearing a heart rate monitor. Have you ever done that? It’s fun. So now I’m not only obsessed with the numbers on my timer as it is ticking down my minutes, I can also look at the numbers on the heart rate monitor, and it’s all distracting enough to stop me panicking about the fact I’m actually doing exercise!
But seriously – heart rate monitors are great. The long term plan with my cardio workouts is to be doing intervals, which is apparently one of the best ways to burn calories. So to do it properly, you really need to see what your heart rate is doing. And this morning, I actually discovered I was working a little harder than I should have been, so I got to slow it down a bit. No complaints from me!
Afterwards I checked the monitor and discovered I had burnt 76 calories. Not a lot at all – but you have to consider I am only doing 7 minutes of an actual workout (I’m doing 2 minutes of stretching) and 5 of that is a warm up. I like having a number like that to refer to, and I’m going to enjoy watching it go up as I add my one minute a week. It will feel like proper progress.

Day 62 – Week 9 – 9 mins
Oh how I love Saturday morning lie-ins. Today I broke my usual rule of getting up pretty much as soon as I wake up, doing my minutes, showering and THEN getting back into bed for my lie-in.
Instead – I had my lie-in (with breakfast and a cup of tea) , but stayed there reading the paper long enough that I could get up a couple of hours later and my food was sufficiently digested so that I could do my minutes then. It didn’t matter that it was after 1100am – it was still pretty much the first thing I did after getting up properly.
So – that counts I reckon! In fact, it felt like a bit of a treat!

Day 61 – Week 9 – 9 mins
I am beginning to resist this exercise. I think I am at the worst stage. The gloss of starting a new project has worn off, and I’m not yet seeing the changes that make it all worthwhile. It’s that middle bit that can be quite disheartening. But as I keep hearing, there always has to be a struggle before achievement, and most people give up just before they are about to succeed.
So with that I keep going – in the wild belief, that I will one day see that success.
A little 7 minute jog this morning, and then a couple of minutes of stretching. Hard to believe I have been doing this for two months now….

Day 60 – Week 9 – 9 mins
Once again I worked from home today (this Tube strike is a 48-hour event) but this time I DID get dressed. Pottering about in your PJs for one day is a luxury, any more than that and it’s a downward spiral!
I was up fairly late for me – about 8.00am – to do my strength workout, but didn’t feel very strong at all. I had to stop once during my arm exercises, turn the timer off, and give myself a little break.
I am finding that how well I exercise in the morning depends a lot on my general mood and feeling of well-being. If I’m full of good thoughts, then I’m raring to go and relishing the challenge. If I’m a little down, I find it all quite difficult. No guesses as to how I was feeling this morning then! I was even tempted to yield to my get out clause of only doing the one minute, but in the end managed to keep going. Guess that is what it is all about.
But I’ve had a good day today, and managed to get a lot of stuff done, so I suspect I’ll be feeling in fine form tomorrow for a jog outside – assuming the weather holds out.

Day 59 – Week 9 – 9 mins
I apologise if you are getting two posts at once – but I was out of the house all day yesterday, and had no chance to blog. Today however, I am IN the house all day. We are in the middle of an underground train strike here, which has almost shut down the city. This is not something that concerns me, as I was told to work from home for the day! Joy! I LOVE working from home.
I got up this morning, did my 7 mins of bosu and 2 minutes of stretching, had my shower and got back into bed. And stayed there. I turned on the work laptop and worked away in bed all day. I tell you – it’s the only way forward. Wish I could do it every day. Now before you start thinking how terrible that is, remember Winston Churchill used to do a lot of his work from bed, and there’s a man who managed to get stuff done! I guess you couldn’t do it every day, but once in a while, it’s a real treat.
Glad I did my minutes first though….would have felt much guiltier if I hadn’t done at least a little bit of exercise.
