Day 257 – Week 37 – 37 mins (25)
Doing the usual Christmas thing, we travelled a couple of hours away from home yesterday to spend the day and night with family, just getting back home around 7.30 tonight.
And despite many hours of eating, drinking and keeping children entertained I managed to get myself on the bosu for a 25 minute session – again, with the help of the magnificent headphones.
Total for the week is 116 minutes (16.57 mins a day). It’s the worst for some time, but I figure it’s a turning point. Christmas week was inevitably going to be the toughest – and the guilt of overindulgence alone should be enough to make an improvement next week.

Day 256 – Week 37 – 37 mins (25)
Ok – getting back into the groove after the Christmas thing.
And so much more enthusiastic with my new Christmas present – a pair of wireless headphones!
Now you know, I’m the kind of person who feels I should be doing something ‘useful’ at the same time as exercising, so what I usually do if I’m jigging about in the living room, is try and listen to/watch some kind of webinar on my laptop as I do it. And as I don’t have particularly good speakers on my laptop, I need to wear headphones.
As you can imagine – this gets a bit tricky when you are wearing headphones that are plugged into the laptop, especially if you make any sudden moves!
But all my problems are solved with my new wireless headphones. I can jig about to my heart’s content, and even wander off into the bathroom afterwards, without missing a word of the webinar. Love it. A new piece of kit and I am full of enthusiasm! Not enough to do a full 37 minutes, but at least I go two thirds of the way…

Day 255 – Week 37 – 37 mins (3)
Now come on guys – it’s Christmas Day. You didn’t really think I’d be getting up and going for a jog did you?
This is the first Christmas Day in five years that I haven’t had to bundle myself into a taxi at 6.45 in the morning, and make my way across the other side of London to my office and go to work. This is the first Christmas Day in that time I have had Christmas Lunch at my own kitchen table, instead of at my desk.
There was no way I was going out for a jog.
What I did do was dance around in the kitchen to ‘Footloose’ for three minutes, demonstrating with great gusto the steps to a dance I used to do on stage when I was about 15. Ok, yes, I’d had a glass or two of bubbly first. The bits I couldn’t remember, I made up, but I did get my heart rate up for the few minutes the song lasted, and on a day like today, I reckon that counts.
Merry Christmas to all….

Day 254 – Week 37 – 37 mins (5)
‘Tis the day before Christmas, and I am afraid I just managed five mins of stretching and strengthening. Too much to do, too excited about a week and a bit’s holiday starting tomorrow – just generally too distracted to be concentrating on health and fitness!

Day 253 – Week 37 – 37 mins
I was determined to do better today. So, when woken up by the delicate sound of the recycling men throwing wine bottles into their truck, I decided I should get myself up and try and go for a run.
It was almost 8.00am and only just light, but I decided I could get myself out there. What better way to mark the passing of the winter solstice than to agree that if I could go for a run on around about the shortest day of the year, then I would have no excuses once the light came flooding back.
And so I did. I couldn’t run on the pavement because it was too icy, but once I got to the park, I quite enjoyed crunching my feet on the frosty grass as I ran around the cricket oval. I came home well-pleased with myself.
It was only after getting back into bed with my cup of tea that I thought to look up the temperature.
Minus three degrees!!! I had been out in minus three degrees! Now if you are Russian or Canadian you are probably thinking that is an entirely appropriate way to spend such a warm winter morning. But if you are Australian like me, you are wondering if your heart can still beat in such temperatures. Especially when all my friends and family at home are probably sitting around the pool in about 38 degrees at the exact same moment that I am crunching the frost.
You bet I felt virtuous after that…
