Day 91 – Week 13 – 13 mins

Really hard to believe it has been three months that I have been doing this now. It has flown by. I’m a quarter of the way through this experiment. And so far I’m pretty happy with it. I’m just now starting to feel the benefits, and I figure it will just get better exponentially from here.

This morning, I did my strength routine with a minimum of fuss, even though it was a Sunday, then climbed gratefully back into bed with a cup of tea. Now I just have to figure out what I’m going to do with my extra minute on the bosu tomorrow morning.

Day 90 – Week 13 – 13 mins

OK. This is weird. I actually enjoyed going for my run this morning – despite the fact it was a Saturday, and that it started to rain as soon as I got out there. There was just something that seemed to work today. My legs felt stronger, I felt more in charge of my body somehow.

So, is this what happens? Is this why people actually enjoy exercise? I assume that when you are much fitter than me, the way I felt today is magnified. I don’t want to get too excited here – I am well aware it might all go backwards again tomorrow. But a glimpse of what it is all about now and again will hopefully be enough to make me carry on….

Day 89 – Week 13 – 13 mins

Am very grateful I have made it through to the end of the week in one piece – and feel I deserve a weekend of rest and red wine.

This morning’s strength session was a bit of a challenge, but made my way through it with some grim determination and the knowledge that I really, truly see a slight improvement in my leg muscles these days. Yesterday I wore a skirt and heels, and I swear I caught a glimpse of definition in my calves that I KNOW wasn’t there a few months ago.

And you know – you’ve got to celebrate those little improvements….

Day 88 – Week 13 – 13 mins

Given I have only been averaging about five hours sleep a night for the last few nights (kind of self-inflicted in that I have been studying until late every night after work), this morning my body decided it had had enough of being dragged out of bed before six o’clock.

So – I allowed myself a bit of a sleep in, and could very, very easily have stayed there all day.  According to my schedule, today was a day when I was supposed to go outside for a run, but once it gets past about 7.30, there is so much traffic, running outside is not the pleasant experience it should be.  So as you can imagine, I lay there worrying about how late it was getting and being tempted to give up on the whole idea – and in the end, I guess I did. I decided that it was too late to go outside, and compromised with a session on the bosu instead.

It was still pretty difficult to get up, but I forced myself to remember that consistency is the key, and ended up having quite a good session. But it’s oh so easy to give in to the argument that missing ‘just one day’ won’t make a difference…..I’m not sure how long I can keep up the stern talk to myself before I just put my hands over my ears and refuse to listen.

But for now, I will celebrate making it through another day….

Day 86 – Week 13 – 13 mins

Had an excellent session on the bosu this morning – jigging about to Gwen Stefani. I worked up a proper sweat and really felt like I had done some good. I reckon I’m just starting to touch on enough exercise now, to start making a bit of difference.

It constantly amazes me how easily you can get your heart rate up on the bosu, even when you don’t feel like you are doing that much. I mean – it’s fairly clear that jumping on it with two feet is going to do the trick, but did you know – even balancing on it and then just lifting your leg up to the side (very slowly or you’ll fall over) does it as well.

And I know this due to the unexpected joy that comes from wearing a heart rate monitor – who knew that a strip of rubber around your chest and a wristwatch that looks like it came out of a 1980’s cereal packet could be so much fun!
