Day 253 – Week 37 – 37 mins

I was determined to do better today. So, when woken up by the delicate sound of the recycling men throwing wine bottles into their truck, I decided I should get myself up and try and go for a run.

It was almost 8.00am and only just light, but I decided I could get myself out there. What better way to mark the passing of the winter solstice than to agree that if I could go for a run on around about the shortest day of the year, then I would have no excuses once the light came flooding back.

And so I did. I couldn’t run on the pavement because it was too icy, but once I got to the park, I quite enjoyed crunching my feet on the frosty grass as I ran around the cricket oval. I came home well-pleased with myself.

It was only after getting back into bed with my cup of tea that I thought to look up the temperature.

Minus three degrees!!! I had been out in minus three degrees! Now if you are Russian or Canadian you are probably thinking that is an entirely appropriate way to spend such a warm winter morning. But if you are Australian like me, you are wondering if your heart can still beat in such temperatures. Especially when all my friends and family at home are probably sitting around the pool in about 38 degrees at the exact same moment that I am crunching the frost.

You bet I felt virtuous after that…

Day 239 – Week 35 – 35 mins

It was an absolutely lovely morning this morning, and I really enjoyed getting out there and managing a run. It makes such a difference to have clear blue skies and crisp air.

And I have to say, I am really appreciating enjoying a bit of fresh air like this, when you end up spending the rest of the day in the office. If I didn’t go for the odd run, I could quite easily go for days with less than than five minutes of fresh air a day.

So – I am making the most of the sunshine while it lasts…

Day 226 – Week 33 – 33 mins (28)

Much better today!

And it wasn’t raining, so I got myself out for a proper run.

Unfortunately, just as I was getting back from the run, I remembered I had to be at work an hour earlier than normal today to take part in a conference call. This is why the last five minutes of stretching didn’t get done.

I was in the door, in the shower, and back out again in half an hour – not the way I like to go about my mornings. I prefer a much gentler transition out into the big wide world…

Day 218 – Week 32 – 32 mins (5)

Well – I had lots of good intentions to go out for a run this morning for a run – only it was still dark at 5.30 when I got up.

So – I got on with a few jobs that I needed to do on the computer, while waiting for it to get light. But then – well – I got stuck in the middle of something I really wanted to try and finish, and you guessed it, the run didn’t happen.

I barely had time for five mins of speedy strengthening before I had to get myself ready for work.

Day 215 – Week 31 – 31 mins (22)

Oh it was truly stormy today, and I was really disappointed I couldn’t pop outside for my jog. I’ve been fortunate to haveĀ  a pretty good run of lovely weather lately, and have got used to being able to make it outdoors.

I am truly surprised that I am disappointed when I cannot go outside to run. I’m not kidding myself that it is the ‘not being able to run’ that I am disappointed about. But if it’s a choice being going out for a run, or staying inside and jigging about some other way, like the bosu, I prefer the outdoors every time.

This is a direct contrast to how I used to feel before starting this experiment, and I have no idea why it’s happened. But as we all know, getting out in the fresh air is a good thing, so I guess it is to be encouraged.

So today – I had to pull out the bosu for the first time in a while and jig about on that to get my heart rate up. I managed about 22 minutes before getting bored and deciding to call it a day. I think I need to pull out some great 80’s rock anthems to get me a little more motivated…any good suggestions?
