Day 115 – Week 17 – 17 mins
Despite having visitors in the house, sleeping on the sofa bed, I managed to slip into the living room to do my strength workout this morning. Don’t worry – they were up and about, I didn’t try and do it while they were in there…
It’s weird – but I almost feel like I have to sneak around doing the exercise thing – why is that? Shouldn’t I be proud that I’m doing it? I think the reason for my reticence is two-fold.
1) If people aren’t regular exercisers themselves, they seem to be slightly uncomfortable that you are. Does it make them feel guilty that they are not doing it? You getting up and doing your thing is a very clear reminder to them that they are not – and I think they feel a little uncomfortable.
2) They don’t think it will last. I’m pretty sure that when I explain to most people what I’m doing, they think it is just a passing fancy – that I will get tired of it and go back to being Ms Sedentary in a week or two. I don’t blame them. There’s been many a time I’ve started a project/new habit, only to have it dwindle out a few weeks or later. But isn’t that the whole point of one goal one minute? To break that pattern….To have decided on the ONE THING I promise to do every day, in some form or another…So I don’t really worry about what people are thinking about this…I am in fact, slightly smug. Because I know – by hook or by crook – I will complete this experiment – no matter how tired or bored of it I become. It is now a matter of honour!!

Day 114 – Week 17 – 17 mins
I’ve had a change in my working arrangements, which is seeing me sometimes out of the house and on the way to the train station before 6.00 in the morning – so I figure, trying to get my minutes done before that is being a little bit ambitious.
So today – I experimented with going forĀ a run during my lunch break at work.
And you know – it was great. For one thing – it gets me out of the office for a bit – something I generally don’t do. And secondly, sitting back at my desk having got that blood flowing and having had a nice, fresh shower, put me in a better mood for the day.
Of course, the challenge is managing to pack all the right things and not forgetting anything – but today it all worked out fine. As I jogged along the river at London’s Canary Wharf (with many others doing the same thing, I have to say) all felt right with the world….
Though doing my stretching in public felt a bit odd!!

Day 113 – Week 17 – 17 mins
Back on the road again this morning, doing my early morning jog on the streets of London. It just isn’t as glamorous as going for a swim in Spain each day.
But I’m feeling it in my legs – not sure if that is a result of this morning’s run or of the strength exercises yesterday, but I am feeling a bit stiff and sore.
With visitors in the house, it is going to have to be a jog every day this week – the living room is now the guest bedroom and so there is no space for the bosu or the strength routine…so out on the streets it is, for the week….

Day 110 – Week 16 – 16 mins
This swimming business is getting easier. I’ve decided that it’s not really about strength or technique, but it’s all about breathing. As a teenager I could swim laps for an hour without struggling for breath, but I am obviously well out of practice, because that is what I am finding the most difficult.
But today – it is slightly easier, and I’m sure that if I could swim regularly I’d soon get back into the habit. Unfortunately this is the penultimate day of the holiday – so the swimming will soon be coming to an end…
Tried touching my toes again today – and it wasn’t any better. Try it! See what I mean? You wonder how on earth you ever got down there….

Day 109 – Week 16 – 16 mins (16)
Family party over and back to our quiet little apartment about half an hour away. It is still hot – roasting, in fact, and I am having trouble functioning.
It was half past six in the evening before it was cool enough for me to get in the pool and do my minutes today. But apart from avoiding children and their inflatable swans, all passed without incident.
I really do like to swim, so it is no great hardship. But then I decided to get out of the pool and tried to touch my toes. Oh my goodness – I really don’t suggest you leave it 10 years in between attempts – you may be shocked at how rubbish you are at it!
