Day 128 – Week 19 – 19 mins
As I had to be out of the house before 6.00am this morning, as you can imagine – getting in some exercise beforehand was not really on the cards! And as it is a strength day, that’s not something I could do in the office at lunch time – so it had to be done when I got home from work at about 7.00 instead.
I came home, dumped my bag, gave the boyfriend a kiss and then lay on the bed thinking about getting out of my work clothes and into the exercise gear. Boyfriend got himself a beer and I refused a drink. And I lay there for a bit longer. And eevvveeentuuualllyyyyy I managed to get myself up, put some music on and do my strength exercises. Man – it’s hard work getting yourself motivated at that end of the day. Of course – it really isn’t that bad once you get started, and it did only take up 19 minutes of my evening – but still, that’s 19 minutes when I could have been drinking a glass of wine.
I am definitely a morning person.

Day 127 – Week 19 – 19 mins
This morning, I thought I could see a trace of some abs in the mirror. Only a trace – but there was something there, I am convinced. This is progress. I have never had abs of any description.
Early start at work today, so went for the jog at work option. It was a lovely day, and a delight to go for a bit of a run about down by the river (along with a whole load of other Londonites, I have to say).
The thing is, I had taken a bag to work with all the bits and pieces I needed – exercise clothes, socks, a towel and some shower gel etc. Unfortunately, the lid came off the shower gel, and it spilled all over my socks. But what’s a girl to do? She can’t be using that ‘I can’t go for a run, I’ve got shower gel on my socks’ excuse – so despite the socks being a little soggy, I put them on, and went anyway.
So – while I was enjoying getting out in the fresh air, I was slightly distracted as I felt the need to keep an eye on my shoes. I couldn’t help thinking that if I started to sweat, the moisture might mix with the shower gel, and I’d start seeing bubbles coming out of my shoes! Of course that didn’t happen – but I swear I DO now have the sweetest smelling running shoes in the area!

Day 124 – Week 18 – 18 mins
I have decided that resistance to exercise grows throughout the day.
Certainly, when you wake up in the morning, you have resistance – but it’s manageable, because in theory you know you have all day to get the exercise done, so it doesn’t bother you too much.
But as the day goes on, your resistance grows as the hours you have left in the day reduce. So – by the time you get to say, five o’clock, your resistance is so strong, you decide that you can’t possibly manage to fit that exercise in for the day – I mean, look at the time, it’s five o’clock, I’ve got to get to the shops, I have dinner to cook, it’s pretty much time for a gin and tonic – no, that exercise will have to wait until tomorrow, far more important things to do right now.
Sound familiar?
That was my day today. I had the day off work, but I had to be out the house fairly early for an appointment. In theory, I could have done my minutes in the morning before I went, but I thought, you know – I have all day, I can do it when I get back. But did I? No. I’d ended up having something to eat while I was out, so I had to wait for the food to digest when I got home. And then I got stuck into some other projects. And then it was four o’clock, and I knew I had to leave at five thirty to go out for dinner. (It takes a long time to get anywhere in London – we have to leave early for dinner dates!!) The resistance was pretty big by this time I tell you.
But – with much reluctance – I discarded the laptop and got the exercise gear on and did the strength exercises. And of course – then I felt fantastic. Now, why on earth didn’t I do that first thing in the morning??

Day 123 – Week 18 – 18 mins
Decided to go for my jog during my lunch break at work today.
I have to admit, it feels like something of a luxury to make the decision to do the run at work, rather than first thing in the morning. In theory – I would have had time to do it before going to work this morning, but there was something SO good about deciding to do it later – even though it goes against one of my general principles of exercising first thing in the morning and getting it out of the way, so you don’t have to think about it for the rest of the day.
I still think first thing in the morning is the very best policy – but now and again – the novelty of a run at a different time of the day keeps me going – it’s a treat. But of course, if there’s a single day when I don’t do it at all, because I have left it too late in the day, then all bets are off. It’s back to the basics. Mornings it is, no excuses. I know myself too well….

Day 121 – Week 18 – 18 mins
Back on the bosu again….
I missed the old bosu during the weeks of holidays and visitors, and while it was hard work, it was good to be back on it again this morning. I tell you – it doesn’t take too much to get your heart rate up on that thing.
One thing I have decided though, is that I need to bite the bullet and invest in some exercise shorts of some description. I truly DETEST spending money on sports clothing. If I’m going shopping, I want to buy something with beads or sequins, I really DO NOT want to spend it on some overpriced piece of fabric which is just going to get drenched in sweat after five minutes. But given that all I have is some ancient stretched cotton numbers that are some kind of cross between trackie dacks and leggings – jigging about in the summer heat is doing me in. Something that finishes around about the knee and allows a little airflow, is what is required I think.
But you know – I just can’t get excited about a trip to Sweaty Betty on my day off….
