Day 49 – Week 7 – 7 mins

So, while going for my second-ever-bike-ride-in-a-million-years today, I decided I should actually embrace the rather bumpy riverside track we were travelling along, instead of whinging about it.  My bike does not have particularly good suspension, and I was being jolted around all over the place, as we trundled along.  But, as I was feeling the vibrations shoot through me, I decided it was kind of like having my own personal power plate – you know, those machines people are standing on at the gym, which vibrate away all the fat in their thighs.  All those crazy people paying a fortune for gym membership, when all you have to do is get yourself a bike and ride along the tow path of the River Thames.  If only they knew!

So yes – I’m pleased to say, I now consider myself a regular cyclist – having got myself in the saddle two weekends in a row!

But back to the basics.  I decided to venture outside this morning, and it seems I wasn’t the only one. While going for my gentle five minute jog around the block, I passed three other people doing the same thing. Though, if I was to be honest, they WERE moving quite a bit quicker than I was.  But nevertheless, I was pleased to see I wasn’t the only crazy one exercising on a Sunday morning.

I did of course do my two minutes of stretching as well. And then, after a shower and sneaking back into bed, I discovered my fella didn’t even know I’d gone, and didn’t believe me when I told him I’d been out for a run.

I will have to make a little bit more noise next time….

Day 42 – Week 6 – 6 mins

I have just got back from a bike ride along the river, which was interrupted by a few hours in our local riverside pub.

What you need to keep in mind is that it is very, very, many years since I have ridden a bicycle, which therefore involved using muscles that I believe have lain dormant for all of that time.

This is evident by the fact that after a one hour bike ride, then a long, lazy stop off at said gorgeous little pub where we met up with some friends, I was physically incapable of sitting back on the bike for the final little spurt home. There are obviously muscles in your buttocks that have no other purpose in life other than to sit you down on a bicycle – why else would they protest so loudly when suddenly forced into use! It’s going to be interesting to see how I feel in the morning.

The bike ride was in addition to the five mins arm warm up and one minute stretching this morning, so am well pleased with my level of activity for the day. Now, if only I could have a day off on the ‘morrow……..
