Day 60 – Week 9 – 9 mins
Once again I worked from home today (this Tube strike is a 48-hour event) but this time I DID get dressed. Pottering about in your PJs for one day is a luxury, any more than that and it’s a downward spiral!
I was up fairly late for me – about 8.00am – to do my strength workout, but didn’t feel very strong at all. I had to stop once during my arm exercises, turn the timer off, and give myself a little break.
I am finding that how well I exercise in the morning depends a lot on my general mood and feeling of well-being. If I’m full of good thoughts, then I’m raring to go and relishing the challenge. If I’m a little down, I find it all quite difficult. No guesses as to how I was feeling this morning then! I was even tempted to yield to my get out clause of only doing the one minute, but in the end managed to keep going. Guess that is what it is all about.
But I’ve had a good day today, and managed to get a lot of stuff done, so I suspect I’ll be feeling in fine form tomorrow for a jog outside – assuming the weather holds out.

Day 38 – Week 6 – 6 mins
Some days are just a lot harder than others.
Things didn’t start well this morning, when for the life of me, I couldn’t remember whether I had done cardio the day before, or strength. This of course meant I couldn’t remember what I was supposed to do today.
I’m serious, it took me several minutes to figure it out. I nearly had to go and look up this blog to remember!
Anyway – got their eventually – and did my arm exercises. And even that was hard. I have to say, I have pathetic arms. I even give up on drying my hair with a blow-dryer before it’s finished because my arms get tired. So, when I do my arm exercises I can always feel it by the time I get to the end – a little burning in the muscle, and always the temptation to put the medicine ball down and give up. But this morning – I don’t know what was going on. Even after one minute my muscles were burning. That’s not usually the case. But I struggled on, with little baby rests in between. Man – it will be good when I no longer have pathetic arms. And just think how much better my hair will look!!

Day 8 – Week 2 – 2 mins
Well – that is a milestone. We have made it all the way to week 2 without losing a single day of exercise.
I know, I know, it’s all very easy at this stage. We’re only doing a minute or two of jigging about – you can’t call that proper exercise, you say. And you are right. But I tell you – if I had told myself I had to do half an hour of exercise every day for a week, I sincerely doubt I would have managed it. This way, I am learning to deal with all my resistance, all my excuses, all the million and one ways I’ve managed to get out of exercise in the past BEFORE it gets hard, BEFORE I lose the will to live at the thought of having to get hot and sweaty for half an hour.
Does that make some kind of sense?
Believe me – this habit of getting up and exercising first thing in the morning has to be well and truly ingrained before I get a chance to wimp out at the tough stuff.
So today. Two minutes of arm exercises with the mini medicine ball, and my work was done. How did you go?
