Day 253 – Week 37 – 37 mins

I was determined to do better today. So, when woken up by the delicate sound of the recycling men throwing wine bottles into their truck, I decided I should get myself up and try and go for a run.

It was almost 8.00am and only just light, but I decided I could get myself out there. What better way to mark the passing of the winter solstice than to agree that if I could go for a run on around about the shortest day of the year, then I would have no excuses once the light came flooding back.

And so I did. I couldn’t run on the pavement because it was too icy, but once I got to the park, I quite enjoyed crunching my feet on the frosty grass as I ran around the cricket oval. I came home well-pleased with myself.

It was only after getting back into bed with my cup of tea that I thought to look up the temperature.

Minus three degrees!!! I had been out in minus three degrees! Now if you are Russian or Canadian you are probably thinking that is an entirely appropriate way to spend such a warm winter morning. But if you are Australian like me, you are wondering if your heart can still beat in such temperatures. Especially when all my friends and family at home are probably sitting around the pool in about 38 degrees at the exact same moment that I am crunching the frost.

You bet I felt virtuous after that…

Day 252 – Week 37 – 37 mins (1)

OK – it’s tough, but not that tough. I don’t really have any excuse for managing just one minute. Agreed – I did get called into work early, but if I had been REALLY committed, I could have managed something a little more than that.

I just didn’t have the fortitude. I am weakened by the thought of the holidays ahead….

Day 251 – Week 37 – 37 mins (20)

OK guys – you gotta remember – this is a tough time of year. If you are not running around trying to finish your Christmas shopping, you are working overtime to finish off stuff before Christmas, or you are tripling the number of social events on your calendar.

It’s tough to be exercising right now.

So – I’m pretty pleased to be managing anything, even if it is only 20 mins of stretching and strengthening. It’s keeping my muscles alive – that’s something.
