Day 124 – Week 18 – 18 mins

I have decided that resistance to exercise grows throughout the day.

Certainly, when you wake up in the morning, you have resistance – but it’s manageable, because in theory you know you have all day to get the exercise done, so it doesn’t bother you too much.

But as the day goes on, your resistance grows as the hours you have left in the day reduce. So – by the time you get to say, five o’clock, your resistance is so strong, you decide that you can’t possibly manage to fit that exercise in for the day – I mean, look at the time, it’s five o’clock, I’ve got to get to the shops, I have dinner to cook, it’s pretty much time for a gin and tonic – no, that exercise will have to wait until tomorrow, far more important things to do right now.

Sound familiar?

That was my day today. I had the day off work, but I had to be out the house fairly early for an appointment. In theory, I could have done my minutes in the morning before I went, but I thought, you know – I have all day, I can do it when I get back. But did I? No. I’d ended up having something to eat while I was out, so I had to wait for the food to digest when I got home. And then I got stuck into some other projects. And then it was four o’clock, and I knew I had to leave at five thirty to go out for dinner. (It takes a long time to get anywhere in London – we have to leave early for dinner dates!!) The resistance was pretty big by this time I tell you.

But – with much reluctance – I discarded the laptop and got the exercise gear on and did the strength exercises. And of course – then I felt fantastic. Now, why on earth didn’t I do that first thing in the morning??
