Day 140 – Week 21 – 21 mins

It was my last chance to run amongst the sunflowers this morning, as I added one more minute to my jogging routine. There really is nothing quite like jogging along in the French countryside, with a ‘Bonjour’ here and there to the little old man wandering into the village, and the elegant woman opening up her cottage windows for the day. But tomorrow – back to reality. Strength exercises in the London flat, and an hour and a bit’s commute to work.

But the main thing is, I managed to get through another holiday, albeit a mini-one, without abandoning the exercise, and this is something to be celebrated. I really think I’m getting the hang of this now – I am pretty convinced I can find some way to exercise every day, regardless of the millions of reason not to.

Day 139 – Week 20 – 20 mins

I struggled a bit this morning. Slept in late, then was lying in bed with about 20 pages left of the novel I was reading, just as the rest of the house started stirring.

At that point I could have got up and done my minutes and been ready for breakfast at about the same time as everyone else OR I could finish my book instead, and still make breakfast – but I wasn’t going to be able to do both.

In the end I knew that I couldn’t actually physically move from bed without finishing the book (there was a mystery to be finally revealed after hundreds of pages), so the book got read, and then I decided I would live with being late for breakfast to get those exercises out of the way.

But this is the thing, you are constantly having to make decisions about what is your priority (as you can tell, for me, finding out what happens at the end of the novel will ALWAYS be the priority!) but I could cope with being late for breakfast, even though it means having to explain to others that I had to get the exercise out of the way. And as I’ve said before – for some reason I am often embarrassed about doing that.

But I think I’m finally getting better at it…

Day 138 – Week 20 – 20 mins

It was a delight to go for my jog this morning, making my way past lovely stone cottages, a few cows and the odd tractor. Far more pleasant to be jogging in the French countryside than on a busy London street. And on my way back, I dropped into the village shop to pick up a loaf of bread and a few croissants for breakfast – now that’s the life!

Day 137 – Week 20 – 20 mins (15)

Ah France. Sunshine, almost traffic-free roads, picturesque villages – and cheese. So much cheese to eat! There is no doubt that whatever exercise I get done while I spend these few days in France, there is no way it will counteract the effects of the amount of cheese I am likely to eat while I am here. There is an OBLIGATION to eat cheese while in France I feel….

So after our very early start, and our 6.15am boarding of our flight, we then sat on the tarmac for over an hour while a computer on the plane was replaced. But other than that – an incident free flight and then an hour’s drive…and we were at our destination.

After a grand lunch of, you guessed it, bread and cheese, I then collapsed on the bed for a much needed siesta. Only after that did I manage to get the resistance strap out and do some strength minutes. I got through about 15 minutes before the call of the swimming pool became too much, and I headed outside. So – not a full 20 minutes today, but not a bad effort I think….

Day 136 – Week 20 – 20 mins

An early start at work today – 7.00am – and with an hour’s commute, so no time for morning exercise. Instead I went for a pleasant jog along the river at lunch time.

Tomorrow will be a challenge though. We have to be up at around 3.30 am, to drive to an airport an hour and a half away, for a 6.45am flight to France. Not a chance in hell obviously, of me doing any exercise before that! And of course, the challenge at the other end will be to do my minutes before I get stuck into the wine and cheese, which is what a long weekend in France is all about!
